For more than twenty years, we’ve been exploring the spectroscopic properties of lanthanide complexes, focusing in particular on luminescence and NMR, and more recently on EPR. These studies reveal that the ligand field is important in defining the properties of f-elements, and also provide an exceptionally useful set of tools for imaging.
